This is Us...

After 5 years, a lawsuit and many construction delays we
were well on our way. My brother put in 15 hour days and
got us up and limping along just in time for the 4th of July
holiday in 2004. When our first guest arrived we had no
windows and the doors were waiting to be hung. We are now
in our 4th year of business and over most of the humps.
Everything that could go wrong, has. Fortunately for us, we
have had a lot more go right. We have learned from our
mistakes and dealt with them with honesty and integrity. We
are finally getting a website and hope to do a lot more in the
up coming year. Things are going well for us, they could
always be better, but we are happy. How could we not be,
we come to work in the morning and instead of seeing a
bunch of grumpy people who have not had their coffee yet,
we see wagging tails, licking tongues and happy dances in
every one we meet.
The Lodge is a lot of fun and we have several friends that
make their humans bring them often. We love to see old
friends and meet new ones every day. Special thanks to
those that saw us at our worst and keep coming back.
The only draw back I have run into, is I realized I
will be outliving many of my close friends. We
have lost some truly wonderful friends, they were
always happy to be here and we were always
happy to see them. All of the dogs I meet
become my friends and hold a special place in my
heart and every time you lose one, I sincerely feel
your loss.
Know that when your dog stays here at the lodge,
they are not just a number or a "customer", they
are our friends, and we treat them that way.
Thank you for your continued support,
recommendations and most of all for bringing my
friends over for the occasional play date.

Hello my name is Theresa, I was born in Ohio and grew up in
Charlotte, Michigan. I married Earl Sheldon in 1996, he grew up
in St. Johns. We have 2 children, Kara age 11 and Kaden age 7.
They keep us very busy,,,, VERY BUSY!!! Soon after we added
our 3rd four legged family member, my husband very gently told
me "no more dogs!!!" Notice the exclamation points. I have
always loved animals of all kinds and we always had a dog
growing up. So for him to put the end to it... UGH!!!
There are all kinds of stories about me as a child, and adult
rescuing some animal (dead or alive) and in my own way, making
this a better place for me and my rescue. After several months of
thought, I decided to quit my desk job as a computer geek and
set out to make a better place for pets to vacation. So we took
off on this journey to build a place I could play with friends all day
and then send them home,,, kind of like grandma's and grandpa's
only a little hairier.
Special Thanks
I need to thank my Grandma, Cynthia Turner. Without her support of my crazy
dream, it would have never become a reality. My Grandma is one of the strongest
women I know. She has worked hard for every penny she has and for her to have
that much faith in my idea, and me, I will be forever grateful.
Thanks to my parents, Lee and Lana Heath. Without their financial and moral
support, we would have never made it. With construction issues and the lawsuit,
we quickly ran out of money and faith. They stood beside us in our darkest hours
and always had the light. My dad put in many hours putting up walls and my mother
did several hours of babysitting. I will be in their debt forever, in many ways!
Then there is the little brother, whom without his blood, and sweat we would have
never gotten off the ground. Trevor put in many, many long hot days to get us
going. He moved walls without too much growling whenever I asked. He did many
things my way even when he really did not want to. He is our rock!
Special thanks to our Attorney Jim Starr. Jim took our case on very short notice
and did an incredible job. Not only did he do an amazing job in court and on
paper, he is a very generous man. I can say that without Jim's legal smarts,
friendship and generosity, we would not be here today.
Thanks to our friends Woody and Diana, for this awesome location and many
hours of labor. Our friend Kristie for her blood, sweat and tears. Her kids Lanndon,
Logan and Lanie for putting up with us. Kristie is a great partner, always there
when I need her, with love or labor.
This project has been the hardest on my children. Getting up 2 hours early for
school and heading out to work. Being at the Lodge after school too. They never
get to take their vacations when everyone else does and their summer is spent
cleaning kennels and scooping poo. They handle it like troopers and very rarely
complain. Thank you just doesn't seem to say enough.
Last, but never least, my husband Earl. Without his shoulder to cry on and his arms
to hold me up, we would have never made it this far. He put his everything into
putting this dream together for me and I only hope to repay the favor some day.
If I have forgotten anyone, I assure you it was not intentional and just remember
this site is still under construction and I am sure it will show up here soon.
